Our jaggery business traces its origins back to the 1920s, founded by P. K. Ramachandran Chettiar. What began as a seasonal trade was conducted primarily through weekly village markets across the Salem region, serving local communities with traditional jaggery products. The legacy was later carried forward by Sathyanarayana Chettiar, who played a significant role in strengthening the business. He served as the Chief President of the Tamil Nadu Jaggery and Jaggery Buyers Association and subsequently established a dedicated jaggery shop in Rasipuram around the 1950s, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth. Taking the business to the next level, the operations were expanded to Salem in 1967 with the establishment of Sri Sathya Narayanan Jaggery Building, transitioning the venture into a full-scale mandi (wholesale) business. In 1997, the business was successfully taken forward by R. S. Sridhar, under whose leadership it expanded its presence to more than seven states across India. During this phase, the brand Canvita was launched and continues to operate successfully, reflecting our commitment to quality, tradition, and growth.
From the very beginning of our journey, all generations of leadership have maintained strong relationships with manufacturing farmers. These trusted partnerships played a key role in forming a well-organized manufacturing cluster, ensuring consistency and reliability in production. This close collaboration made it easier for the company to guide and upgrade the manufacturing processes, helping farmers adopt better practices. As a result, we are able to maintain the perfect balance of quality and quantity, meeting market demands while preserving the traditional standards of jaggery production.
